My Self-Care Routine
How do you recharge? Are you proactive, or do you burn out before you take time for yourself? In a world where depression and anxiety continue to climb, I believe in taking care of the bodies that God gave us in order to be the light he intends for us to be! In my self-care tool kit, my girly side becomes apparent pretty quickly.
Recognizing Exhaustion
First and foremost, I think recognizing when your body and mind are exhausted is so important. When we are in tune with what our bodies are telling us, we can be proactive and avoid burn out. For me, I recognize the lingering fatigue the most when I struggle to just get through the day. Often, I will get headaches or just need a nap to make it to bed time. #momlife. I get snappy with the people I’m close to and feel guilty for not being my best self. Some of my go-to ways to take care of myself are weekend trips to Starbucks, getting my hair and nails done, allowing myself to indulge in a little retail therapy a couple of Saturday’s a month, and writing.
Look Good & Feel Good
When I look good, I feel good. It might seem vain, but cute clothes and wearing my favorite make-up makes so much of a difference in how I feel! I tend to be drawn to more casual styles and feel my best in leggings and cute graphic tees. But if you feel like a rockstar in heels and a formal dress, rock it! I do allow room in my budget to buy new clothes, but sometimes, that just means visiting my favorite local consignment shop and saving on some of my favorite brands! Cute clothes at a fraction of the cost AND self-care! WIN! I also get my nails done twice a month. It feels good to switch them up and know that I get that time to recharge.
Music Love
Music and writing are also on my self-care list. I have always been a music enthusiast, and that carried over into my adult life. I make playlists for different moods and blast them when I need them. It’s good to tune the world out and get lost in someone else’s lyrics. The south is full of beautiful back roads with drool -worthy scenery. Music and driving are great therapy.
Feed Your Soul
Aside from the physical things we can do to take care of ourselves, taking care of our minds and hearts is even more important. God created us to be his light and live according to His word. When we dive into His word and remember his truths, we can refocus on what is truly important. We have to set our goals around what HE wants us to do. He will always give us what he needs to fulfill his purpose for us!
So, go grab a coffee and jot down your goals!
